Print Obituary & Condolences

Christina "Christy" Sands, 58, of Rockford, passed away on February 5, 2018. She was born on December 6, 1959 in Rockford, the daughter of John and Lucy (Abramson) Sands. Christina graduated from East High in 1977 and studied at Rock Valley College. She enjoyed working with computers and most recently worked in customer service at Servicom. Christy enjoyed sewing, and arts & crafts. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking. Her Pepparkakor cookies were legendary. She was a Cubs fan mainly because her brother was a Reds fan and she enjoyed the rivalry. The events of 9/11 touched her heart and gave rise to a heightened sense of Patriotism and political awareness. Christy's true love was her cats and dogs. She was an active volunteer with Midwest B.R.E.W., a Beagle rescue organization that found homes and educated families for these loving animals and she was proud to be a foster parent for many special needs dogs.
Survivors include her brother, John; nieces and nephews, Katherine, Jonathan, and Jazmin; and several cousins. Predeceased by her parents.
Private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christy Sands Memorial Fund c/o Alpine Bank, 1700 N. Alpine, Rockford, IL 61107. Arrangements by Olson Funeral and Cremation Services, Ltd.

Condolences & Shared Memories (1)

  1. Christie Hucker Brenz

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Chris...(I was Chris #1 and she was Chris #2 - our nicknames for each other all through high school and even I still call her Chris). I hadn't seen her or heard from her in awhile so I was wondering if she was ill. Chris was a very special person to me...we shared lots of great memories from high school and even afterwards, most recently going to our 35th class reunion together. I am sending a big hug to her family and friends as you all struggle with your sadness. Christy was a very special person.
