Print Obituary & Condolences

Doris Mary Priore, nee Kirkwood, 90, of Sycamore, Illinois, formerly of DeKalb and Berwyn, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Bethany Health Care and Rehabilitation, DeKalb.
Born October 23, 1927, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Irish immigrants William and Mary Jane (Hamilton) Kirkwood. Two years prior, her parents had left Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the opportunity to start a family and build their lives in America.
Around 1946, she met a charming young son of Italian immigrants, Louis Priore, while dancing at the Paradise Ballroom in Chicago. They fell in love and married on June 4, 1949, in Chicago. In all their years of marriage, the two never spent a single day apart. Their daughter and only child, Nancy Ellen, was born in 1951.
After graduating from Marshall High School, she worked for Woolworth's and then as a devoted employee of Western Electric (AT&T) for 25 years. As children of the Depression, she and Lou prided themselves on hard work and thrift.
Anyone who knew Doris will remember her sparkling blue eyes and infectious giggle. Her endearing joy will be sorely missed by those who survive her: husband, Lou; daughter, Nancy (Fred) Peltz of Sycamore; grandchildren, Kelly (Tim) Kuhn of Sycamore, Nicole Peltz of Eugene, Oregon, Heather (Dëneze) Nakehk'o of Yellowknife, Canada, and Douglas (Carrie) Peltz of San Francisco, California; and great-grandchildren, Madeline (Michael Devito) Kuhn, Katharine Kuhn, William Kuhn, Emelia Kuhn, K'a Nakehk'o, Lucia Nakehk'o, Jack Wisun, Miranda Peltz and Josephine Peltz; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Ellen McClaren, Maud Klaput and Emma Jean Cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, Ill., following visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, March 2. A private burial will follow at Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
