Carol Jean Leffelman, 77, of Genoa, died Monday, December 11, 2017, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. She was born September 7, 1940, to Mary (Clark) and John Barchard in Kirkland and graduated from Kirkland High School in 1958. On June 25, 1966, she married Lowell Leffelman in Kirkland.
Carol was a dedicated wife and homemaker with a multitude of talents she shared with others and was a caregiver to many friends, relatives, and neighbors. Because of her caring nature, many people called her "Mom" and "Grandma" beyond her daughters and grandchildren. She loved all sports and was a lifelong Cubs fan who was very thankful to have seen them win the World Series.
Survivors include her children, Mary (Ronald) Maxey of Poplar Grove and Julie Leffelman of Genoa; grandchildren, Lisa (Craig) Potts, Anna (Dan) Jones, Sara, Samuel, Benjamin and Thomas Maxey; great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn Potts and Ike Jones; brother, John (Nancy) Barchard of Crystal Lake; sisters, Betty Paulsen of Kirkland, Marian (Claude) Black of Las Vegas, Nev., Dorothy Mendel of Point Richmond, Calif., Joyce Littlejohn of Augusta, Ark., and Shirley (Dan) Norvell of Townsend, Mont.; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell; sisters, Mildred Heal, Gladys Breese-Peura, Helen Barchard and Marjorie Braser; and brother, Donald Barchard.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, December 16, 2017, with the Reverend Lisa Kruse-Safford officiating, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Cooper-Quiram Chapel, 202 E. Main St., Genoa, IL 60135. Visitation is from 10 am to 12 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial is at Hampshire Township Cemetery.
