Laura Hartmann, 103, formerly of Maple Park, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb. She was born on June 9, 1914 in Barrington Township to Wilhelm and Louise (Meyer) Blaschke. On April 28, 1934 she married Arthur Hartmann at St. John Lutheran in Rodenburg, IL. Laura was a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John and the Ladies Aid, Ohio Grove Grange, Maple Park Mother's Club and numerous card groups.
She was an avid gardener and loved showing off the flowers that thrived in her gardens. Laura shared life with her husband, Arthur, for 59 years and one of her favorite places to rest and share conversation with family and visitors to the farm was the 4 person lawn swing that had a prominent place in the yard. Friends and family often gathered on the farm for summer picnics featuring fried chicken or spit roasted chicken. Laura was a loving mother and grandmother. She also loved dogs, canaries, fishing and visits to Wisconsin lakes. Art and Laura enjoyed traveling to every state including Alaska, to Europe and especially Germany.
Survivors include her children, Marlene (James) Turk, Gerald (Nancy) Hartmann and Linda (Charles) Baldridge; grandchildren, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Turk, Rodney (Karyn) Turk, Christopher (Kathleen) Turk, Jeffrey (Sari) Hartmann, Douglas (Cathy) Hartmann, Andrea Thurwanger, Bradley (Monika) Baldridge, Laura Baldridge, Sarah Baldridge; sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; daughter, Janet Joy Hartmann age 3; and siblings, Elsie Albrecht, Viola Purdy, Fred Blaschke, Albert Blaschke, William Blaschke and Ruth Brackmann.
A funeral service will be held at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Rd., Sycamore, IL at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 30, 2017 with Reverend Robert Weinhold and Reverend Marvin Metzger co-officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11:30 am prior to the service, at the church.
