Eileen Elliott, 95, Rockford, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017. A lifelong resident of Rockford. Born February 10, 1922, the daughter of Howard and Ellen (Sydell) Murphy. Eileen was the second child in a family of five children. She attended Rockford Public Schools and graduated from Rockford High School in 1940.
She was proud that she was a member of the thousand plus students who made up the last class to graduate from Rockford High School. After attending post high school work on a comptometer operator's scholarship, she found her first employment at Factory Supplies Company. Eileen met her husband while working there. He was the mailman for that neighborhood. Eileen married Eldon Elliott on June 30, 1945 at Central Christian Church. Sadly, she was widowed in 1956 at the age of 34 and left with three young children. While raising her family as a single parent. She was employed by the Rockford Public Schools as secretary at Kishwaukee School from 1958-66 and in the superintendents office from 1966-82. Eileen was a member of Broadway Covenant Church and served as an officer of the Retired Educational Secretaries in Rockford. Other interests in her busy life included her eight grandchildren of whom she was very proud and her eight great grandchildren. Eileen loved to travel, three trips to Hawaii being her favorites. She sewed, knitted and did embroidery handwork as pastimes making many items for her home and gifts for the family.
Survived by daughter, Marcia (Curt) Stalheim of Durand; son, Jim (Britt) Elliott of Lake Geneva, Wi. and son Tim (Kathy) Elliott of Rockford; brother, Richard (Dolly) Murphy of Keizer, Oregon and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, Eldon, Parents, Howard and Ellen Murphy and two brothers, Roland and Ronald Murphy and sister, Darlene (Henry) Hallberg.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Broadway Covenant Church, 3525 Broadway, Rockford with Rev. Mike Mirakian officiating. Visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
