Obituary

Janice Irene Church Fox, 80, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Presence St. Anne Center. She was born May 13, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin; the daughter of Jerome and Irene Church. Jan graduated from West High School in 1954. She later attended Southern Methodist for two years and then back to Rockford to graduate from Rockford College. She began her teaching career for forty seven years at Marsh and Spring Creek Elementary Schools. In 1965, Jan moved to Sacramento, CA area with her daughter and continued teaching until her retirement in 2004. While living in California, Jan met her husband Hank on a blind date and they just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary November 20, 2016. Jan and Hank moved to Rockford in 2004. Jan always thought of herself as a Californian. She learned to love Rockford because of all the many friends she made in Leading Ladies, Age Quake Theater, Rockford Choral Union, Dream Sweepers, (A Sweepstakes Club), the Rockford Stamp Club and her great neighbors. Additionally, she was very close to her West High School friends who met regularly for lunch and games. Hank wants to thank our minister friend, Jan, also good friend Angela for her prayers, and care staff from Northeast Christian Church, Jan's wonderful doctors especially Dr. Edison Lim and staff, OSF Hospice and the caring and loving staff at Presence St. Anne's.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Preston "Hank" Fox; daughter, Jana (Mike) Fitzpatrick; brother, Jim (Mary Ann) Church; her step-daughters, Susan (Kyme) Fox-Lee; Susan's mother, Judy Willey and her family; step-mother, Lola Church; The Church Family nephews and their family; Lewis Family cousins and their family, especially Bob Lewis who has been so caring and comforting to Jan over her year long illness. Jan also leaves her grandchildren, Kelly Irene and Cary Fitzpatrick, and Kami Fox-Lee.
A private service will be held at Willwood Memorial Park with family and close friends at a later date. Jan requests memorials donations to be made in her name to Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W State St, Rockford, IL 61102.

Condolences & Shared Memories (11)

  1. Manny & Nick Peres von Teck

We just learned of Jan's passing last night. During our decade in Rockford, it seems every day was spent crossing the street to speak with Jan & Hank and they were always the witty guests at our holiday tables. We cannot think of Rockford without Jan being a part of those memories. Like any good performer, she will be spoken of long after she exited the stage.

Hank and Family....It is with deep regret that I read Jan's obituary in todays RR*. My sympathy and heartfelt condolences to those who survive her. Ironically, it was just last Wednesday that I had the opportunity to share some of what AgeQuake Theatre had accomplished by showing a series of pictures of past productions. Jan, of course, was an immense part of our successes. Please know that she contributed to the joy audiences had when seeing/hearing her perform; and I think her last performance was in Byron with Carl and myself. Blessings.....
