Print Obituary & Condolences

Daniel P. Forrest, 26, formerly of Rockton, IL passed away from cardiac arrest due to a medication accident on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Seattle, Washington. He was born June 8, 1990, in Rockford; the son of David Forrest and Pauline (Keehn) Fredin. Daniel was a graduate of Hononegah High School and was attending Seattle Central College.
Daniel was a bright, loving young man with a genuine compassion and kindness for everyone he met and always cared more of others than himself. He had the ability to make friends quickly, make everyone around him feel special, and make them laugh with his wonderful sense of humor and wit. He had a bright future and was looking forward to the next chapter in his life, after college. Daniel loved his family and friends, history, boating, music, movies, and loved nature and the out-of-doors. He was a Jeep enthusiast, loved the holidays, family get togethers, and just hanging out with friends. He was a lover of music, life, and his journey going to college, hanging out with new friends, and working towards his degree in Business and Marketing at the University of Washington. He marveled at the beauty of the scenery in Seattle, WA and took every opportunity he could to explore and go hiking on weekends to witness the beauty of nature and all it has to offer. His smile could light up a room like no one has ever witnessed. Daniel was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He was very intelligent, but could stop and marvel at the wonder of a beautiful sunrise or moon on the horizon. He wanted everyone to share his enthusiasm for nature, knowledge and enjoyed long, intelligent conversations with people to discuss things that were important to him and to them with a completely open mind. He grew up playing hockey, football, baseball, skateboarding, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and loved the water and boating with his family.
Daniel is survived by his father, David; mother, Pauline; brother Michael; Grandfather George Fredin; Aunt Elaine Olson (Steve); Aunt Trina Durstock, (Jay); Aunt Bonnie Peltola (Wally); Uncle Steve Forrest (Mary); Aunt Jean Holm (Peter); cousins, Chad Peltola (Kim), Jorgen Peltola, Matt Olson, Steve Olson II (Lisa), Bill Durstock, Mary Durstock, Ann Forrest, Steve Forrest Jr. (Michelle), Kelly Forrest, Mathew Holm, Julie Ballard (Marty), and Ryan Ballard.
He is predeceased by his infant sister Melissa, Grandfather Robert Forrest, Grandmother Helen Davis, Grandmother Mary Fredin (Frisella), Grandmother Shirley Fredin.

Condolences & Shared Memories (25)

  1. Spencer Schubert

I was saddened to hear about Dan's passing. He was such an important friend to me in my childhood. For so many of my earliest and most treasured memories growing up, he was there by my side. Even though we grew apart in middle school and high school, I always felt that we had a certain understanding. He was the kind of guy who, even after years, I think I could have called on if I was in need. I regret being unable to attend the visitation due to being away for work outside the country, but I hope my message will find his family. I'll never forget Dan or the mark his friendship has left on my life.

The one and only time I had the pleasure of meeting Daniel was on a trip to Utah to see his mother graduate from Western Governor University. We had a blast. The first day we arrived we lost our car in the parking garage. With all of our cell phones losing their charges and the tensions running high it was Daniel that saved the day. He asked a stranger who spent an hour driving him through the garage to locate our car as if it were a Seinfeld episode. When times get difficult to understand it's these memories of Daniel that we need to hold onto and to remember how special he was to each and everyone of us. Daniel, thanks for the memories and the laughter and to know you will be missed but never forgotten.

We loved your son Paula and Dave, he was the first friend our Spencer made upon moving to Rockford, and they were two of a kind. They became inseparable at the babysitter Diana's and cemented that friendship through scouting, school and being neighborhood buddies. He remained a true and genuine friend. We have so many awesome photos and memories of Daniel and Spencer and our hearts are aching for you. May you find comfort in these shared memories of your beautiful son by so many. The thing we all love about Rockton is the feeling of family, we lost one of our own this week. God's peace and comfort to you all, The Schubert family
