Doris M. White, 93, of Rockford, Illinois died after a brief illness on Sunday 4-9-17 at SwedishAmerican Hospital.
Doris was born on September 2, 1923 in Huron, Kansas to Roland Clyde Higley and Marie Wilson Higley. As a child she lived in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas. She graduated from Amarillo High School (Amarillo, Texas), attended Amarillo (Junior) college for one year, and then graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and earned her Master's Degree in Romance Languages from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa where she met Kenneth White. They married in Amarillo, Texas in 1948 and were married for 39 years. He died on January 7, 1987.
She was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church for sixty years.
She loved all animals and cared for them as she cared for her family. She loved the northwoods of Wisconsin and was an avid musky fisherman and charter member of the 139 Muskie Club. Her largest fish was 43 1/2" inches and no matter how he tried, Ken could never out-fish her. He was an excellent guide though.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Ken. She is survived by her children Pat (Gary) Nehring of Winnebago, Bill White of Rockford, and Wendy (Barry) Dahlberg of Pecatonica. Her three grandchildren Erick Dahlberg, Andrea Dahlberg (Tony Martin), and Katie White were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her brother James (Pauline) Higley of Amarillo, TX and by nieces and nephew Gayle Houseworth, Pamela Mason and Paul Higley, many cousins and close friends. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for their loving care of Doris for these past few years.
A private burial service was held. A memorial service for friends and family, with Rev. Dean Parker officiating, will be held at noon on Saturday April 22, 2017 at Fred C.
