Jean I. Bergman, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017. She was born October 24, 1928, in Rockford; the daughter of Carl and Martha (Forberg) Bergman. Jean attended East High School; she spent 12 years of her childhood in Balm, Florida before returning back to Rockford. Jean married Robert Robbins on July 10, 1948, in Rockford. She worked 18 years at Woodward Governor Company where she was a console switchboard operator, and retired in 1990. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she spent 40 years as a member of the senior choir. Jean was a former member of the Belvidere Moose Club.
She is survived by her children, Cristine Lindstrom of Machesney Park, Charles (Nancy) Robbins of Machesney Park, and Catherine (Mike) Jacobs of Winnebago, IL; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Tammy), Carl (Vivian) , John (Gunilla), Fred (Barbara), and Ted (Dianna) Bergman; dear friend, Marilyn Carlson; cousins; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by twin sister, Joan Bergman; sister, Ann Bergman; brother & sister-in-law, Richard (Clara) Bergman; son-in-law, Greg Lindstrom and great-granddaughter, Courtney Lindstrom.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017, in Zion Lutheran Church, 925 5th Ave. Rockford with Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial will take place in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church.
