Edwin W. Carlson, 79, of Cary died Friday, March 17, 2017 at JourneyCare, Pepper Family Hospice Center in Barrington. He was born July 7, 1937 in Chicago the son of William and Svea (Erickson) Carlson. He graduated from Harvard High School and then served in the United States Army. Edwin worked for Motorola for 34 years and was a model maker who was involved in the design of the first cellular flip phone. His enjoyments after retirement were working in his yard grooming it as a golf course. He also enjoyed spending time at old tractor shows and threshing bees. Specifically the Sycamore Threshing Bee with his 2 grandchildren Eric and Heather. He had a love for old John Deere tractors. He also loved older cars and motorcycles. The Sycamore Car Show was a favorite of his.
Edwin has three surviving sons. Andrew (Venora) of Gulf Shores Alabama, Alan (Marianne) of Sycamore Illinois and Keith (Sheila) of Brownsburg Indiana. He has six surviving grandchildren. Nathanael, StellaRae, Eric, Heather, Brenden and Spencer. He is survived by his sister Gladys (Jim) Greiger, brother Ron (Karen) Carlson and brother Clifford (Peggy) Carlson and his loving companion of 9 years Linda Favia
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Albert Carlson.
A celebration of Life luncheon will be held at Randall Oaks Golf Club, 4101 Binnie Rd West Dundee, Il 60178. The time of the celebration will be from 1pm to 4pm. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to a charity of your choice in his name.
