Obituary

Richard "Rich" M. Johnson, 68, was and will always be a loving husband, father, grandfather, and son. Rich never met a person he couldn't talk to, share a beer with or lend a hand if they needed it. Rich was a painter by trade but there was nothing in a house that he couldn't figure out. Rich loved spending time with his family and family of friends, whether going to the library, doing yoga at Peak, snowmobiling up north or FINALLY watching the Cubs win the Series. Rich passed away peacefully in his home on March 6, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rich was born in Rockford on November 11, 1948 to Robert and Willa Jean (Anderson) Johnson. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.
Rich will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol; son, Jeff (Maureen) Johnson; granddaughter, Victoria; mother, Willa Jean Johnson; sister, Jan Garland; nieces; nephews; and too many good friends to name. The Family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice, especially Traci, and the numerous workers and volunteers who helped to make him comfortable.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, March 10, 2017 in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford, with Pastor Jonathan Banister officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice Foundation, 4215 Newburg Rd, Rockford, IL 61108. To share a memory or send an online condolence, visit olsonfh.com.

It was our privilege to know Rich--his work was the best and we also felt his friendship was warm and sincere as well as good humored. Rich will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family. Respectfully, Craig and Terri Lindmark

  3. Alan Starbuck

I will always remember the good times we had together. Memories of snowmobiling, Rich playing Santa Claus when Jeff and Jen were little kids, having a beer with Rich and Jake at the Lyran Society, seeing Rich at Peak Fitness, always with a smile on his face. I wish we could get together again for another herring breakfast with Uncle Don. I will miss him. He was a great guy and always a friend.

  4. Alan Albrandt

I only got to spend time with Rich a few times but I found him to be kind, generous and a very nice person to be around. Praying for his loved ones. Alan
