Gerald (Jerry) Gene Gustafson died in his home on March 5, 2017. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Rockford, Illinois, a businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit, an excellent athlete, and a beloved son, father and grandfather. Jerry graduated from East High School and went on to study business at the University of Illinois and Northern Illinois University. He was an owner of Rockford Molded Products, his main business endeavor. Jerry also turned personal interests into business ventures. His love of Oceanic art led to an art partnership dealing in museum quality work and fine decorative pieces. A triathlete and marathon runner (Boston and New York), Jerry was an original owner of The Spokesmen bike store in Rockford in the 1980's. Despite being felled by a stroke in 1999, Jerry continued to be known for his generous spirit, quick wit and irreverent humor. Jerry is survived by daughters, Adena (Matthew) Smith, Reston, VA, and Metta Gustafson (Jon Helm), Albuquerque, NM; grandsons, Roane and Jonah Smith; and former wife, Maureen (Mickey) Lundquist Gustafson. There are two generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Henry (Hank) and Ida Gustafson and brothers, Douglas and Craig.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Fred C. Olson Chapel,1001 2nd Ave, Rockford, IL 61104. Reception to follow. Friends are welcome to join the family at 1:00 pm for the burial at Scandinavian Cemetery, 1700 Rural St. Rockford prior to the memorial service.
