Robert E. Lindman, 96, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at 2:15 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at his home. Born July 25, 1920, in Rockford, the son of Alfred and Bertha (Anderson) Lindman. Married June L. Kindstrom on Jan. 11, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa. They celebrated 54 years of marriage prior to June's passing away on Oct. 26, 1994. Together they had four children, seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Robert apprenticed at National Lock to become a machinist. He then worked as a tool and die maker until his retirement. He was drafted into the Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Merrick in WWII. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. At 96, he took and passed his Illinois driver's license. He was very proud of this. He had a strong will to live, and was able to live long enough to see the Cubs win the World Series. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, he loved road trips and loved planting and caring for his garden every Spring.
Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Stover or Rockford and Kathie (Ken) Witherby of Strongsville, OH; two sons, Terry (Kathleen) Lindman of Livermore, CA and John Lindman (Edith Pennington) of Rockford; grandchildren, Deborah (Tim) Huff, Renee Stover, Jennifer (Brian) Lovold, Andrea (Andrew) Lindahl, Kimberly Roberts (Brent Johnson), Wendy (Benjamin) Lindman-Fechner, and Robert (Kaitlin) Witherby; great-grandchildren, Tyler McKnight, Jacob and Rachel Huff, Bo and Kai Lovold, Emma, Seth, and Will Roberts, Taylor and Hayden Lindahl, Leila and Jordan Fechner, and Vincent and Hunter Witherby. Predeceased by his wife, June; and sister, Marian Seefeld. When his health declined in the past year, he was lovingly cared for by Heartland Hospice. Along with the family, he was able to remain in his home as he wished. Special thanks to Teresa, Krystal, Deb, and Nichole of Heartland Hospice and to Karen, Kilee, and Stephanie who lovingly assisted his family with his care, especially during the past three months.
