Joan M. Roush, 85, of Sycamore died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the home of her son in Niles, Illinois. She was born February 15, 1931 at home on the farm in Kane County the 2nd daughter of John and Marian (Stout) Harvey. Joan graduated from Burlington Township High School in 1949 as salutatorian of her class. Before graduation she started working at K & L Garage in Burlington as an accounting bookkeeper and in later years worked for the Sycamore Community Credit Union and retired in 1996 from Duplex Products, Inc. of Sycamore after 20 years, always working as an accounting bookkeeper.
Joan married Marvin H. Roush on October 26, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Burlington and farmed with him for 30 years, beginning on a dairy farm and later raising beef cattle, hogs, and sheep. She could handle most chores and worked many hours on a tractor, both in planting and harvest season. She loved nature, sunsets, northern lights, storms and all animals, especially dogs and cats.
Joan was a member of Mayfield Congregational Church and taught Sunday school for many years while her children were growing up. She served on the church council at various times as, Treasurer, Secretary, and Mission Board. She was very active in the Women's Fellowship for many years.
Joan enjoyed reading, sketching, water color painting, and sewing.
She was very proud of her three sons, Mike, Terry, and Dan and her three grandsons, Vince, Dave, and Tom, and loved her three daughter-in-law's, Marilou, Kathy, and Patti, as if they were her own children. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Gustafson and brother, John Harvey.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178, with Reverend Harlene Harden officiating. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday prior to the funeral service. A private interment service will be held at a later date at Burlington Union Cemetery.     Joan was a wonderful sister-in-law and friend.She was so loving,caring,and talented. She would call 2 to 3 times a week to check up on me.She also checked up on another lady that had been in the hospital. She said she kept busy checking on both of us.All this caring for others not knowing she herself was so sick.I will dearly miss her with all my heart. In so sorry for your loss Dan,Terry,Mike.
