Dick was born on September 21, 1922 in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Richard Sr. and Clara (Johnson) Myrland, moving to Rockford at age 6. Dick was a proud Rockford East High graduate in the class of 1941. He married Jacquelyn Anderson of Evanston in 1944, who preceded him in death in 2004 after 60 years of marriage.

He received promotions to Vice President and Corporate Design Consultant. Dick was privileged to design the famous Wurlitzer 1050 Juke Box, the last domestic Juke Box Wurlitzer built before going out of business. In his final years with Wurlitzer, he did research on off shore manufacturing, traveling to Germany, Central and South America. He finished his professional career with the General Electric Company.
During his lifetime, Dick was involved in scouting, becoming an advisor to an Explorer Post while living in Holly Springs, MS. Dick's hobbies were woodworking, photography, swimming and a passion for aviation. Dick was a master cabinetmaker, draftsman, artist and calligrapher. His final and most fulfilling project was designing and building an intricate/replica "working" dollhouse.
