Print Obituary & Condolences

Kristine S. Johnson Petry, born January 24, 1953 to Wayne E. and Joanne Wilhelmson Johnson in Rockford, Illinois. Kris passed away on January 5, 2017 after a courageous two year battle with brain cancer. She bravely rebounded from three brain surgeries and radiation treatments in Rockford and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Throughout her illness she retained her positive attitude and joyful spirit. She graduated from East High School Class of 1971. Kris was a Master Gardener, loved to cook, cross stitch and knit baby blankets, which she donated to the pediatrics unit at St. Anthony Hospital. She was a devoted Bears fan. At an early age, she enjoyed watching football on weekends with her father and later years with special friend, Stan Bowlin. NASCAR was another favorite sport. She attended races at Daytona and Talladega with her nephew, Joe, who she proudly watched race at the Rockford Speedway. Kris especially enjoyed working as a secretary at Elco Tool in her early career, and in later years as a secretary/accountant at local companies. She loved her trips to Mexico, Jamaica, Florida, and Alaska with her mother and sister leaving us with many happy memories. She will be profoundly missed by her small but extremely close family including her mother, Joanne Johnson, sister, Connie (Henry) LaMarca, nephew, Joe LaMarca (Maria Basile), and her special friend, Stan Bowlin of Edgerton, WI. She is predeceased by her father, Wayne E. Johnson in 1971, grandparents, Joseph and Vera Wilhelmson, and Eben and Edna Johnson. The family would like to thank her doctors in Rockford: Dr. Alexander, Dr. Shaukat, and Dr. Ahmad, along with their staffs for their wonderful care and compassion. She loved you all.
It was her wish to have a private family graveside service with Rev. Jay Quinn of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Arrangements by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd.
