William A. Brackmann, 95, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 at Woodstock Hospice Care Center. He was born on the family farm on September 22, 1921 in Glen Ellyn to Edward and Ella (Kruse) Brackmann. On April 22, 1944 he married his "Sweetie" Ruth Blaschke. They were married for 62 years when she went to be with her Lord.
Bill was a hard worker and jack-of-all trades. He farmed for many years, worked at a dairy, and retired from International Harvester in 1983. He and his wife moved from Schaumburg to Sycamore and were members of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John. He was a man of great faith, a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid golfer until age 89, loved playing cribbage, and lived a full life to the end.
He is survived by son, Tom (Jo Ann) Brackmann of Plainfield; daughter, Jean (Gary) Busse of McHenry; seven grandchildren, Tim (Denise) Brackmann, Carrie (Jamie) Hudjera, Brian (Hillary) Busse, David (Laurie) Busse, Dan Busse, Tony (Wendy) Detente, Eric (Mary) Detente; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Luella Mangaard; three sisters-in-law, Margaret and Jan Brackmann and Laura Hartmann; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Edward, Richard, and Robert Brackmann; two sisters, Evelyn Semeyn, Lorraine Vierow; three sisters-in-law, and six brothers-in-law.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Road, Sycamore, IL with the Reverend Robert Weinhold officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will be on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the church and Woodstock Hospice Care Center.
