Donald N. Pinne, Sr., 91, of Genoa, IL died December 4, 2016 in Granger, Indiana. Born September 24, 1925 in Genoa, IL, the son of Fred H. and Veronica (Scheffer) Pinne. He married Evelyn J. Gahl on December 9, 1945 in Rockford, Illinois; she predeceased him June 21, 1996. Donald was drafted into the military while still in his junior year of high school and served in the US Army during WWII, receiving the Bronze Service Star, Expert Infantryman's Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 2004, the G-K High School presented Donald with an honorary diploma at a special Veteran's Day program. After his military service, he worked on the Illinois Central Railroad for five years. He then worked for GTE Automatic as a Foreman in the Winding and Assembly Department, retiring after 37 years in 1986. During his retirement, he worked at Cooper-Quiram Funeral Homes for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Genoa where he was an Elder for ten years and the Chairman of the Elders for four years. He was also a member of the American Legion Banard Post #337 of Genoa since August of 1945 and was on the firing squad. He was an Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 17 in Genoa and served on the Rescue Squad in Genoa. Donald was a lifelong resident of Genoa until moving to Barb City in DeKalb and finally to The Hearth at Juday Creek in Granger, IN in 2014.
He is survived by his children, Gary (Sue) Pinne of South Bend, Indiana, Donald (Cecilia) Pinne, Jr. of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Karen (Bob) Laffoon of Plymouth, Indiana; twin sister, Dorothy (Rudy) Eicksteadt of Delavan, Wisconsin; sister, Shirley (Clifford) Overton of Sycamore, Illinois; sister-in-law, Doris Pinne of DeKalb, Illinois; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one on the way.
Predeceased by his wife, Evelyn and brother, Orville Pinne.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 9, 2016 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 33930 N State Rd, Genoa, IL with Rev. Jeremy Heilman officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 PM on Thursday December 8, 2016 in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Cooper Quiram Chapel, 202 E Main St, Genoa, IL and from 10-11:00 AM on Friday at Trinity Church, prior to the service.
Burial in Genoa Cemetery.
