John Ring, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Friday January 18, 2019 while a resident of Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born December 2, 1925 to Swedish parents Edward and Hildur Ring, he lived his entire life in Rockford, IL except for time he served his country in WWII. In December 1943 at 18 years of age he left high school to join the US Navy. He served 2 years at sea aboard the USS Solomons, a CVE-67 carrier. In November 1949 John and Beatrice Klint had their first date at the Sweden House Restaurant. After dinner they went to the Swedish Free Church evening service where John accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
John was employed by Carl E. Paulson Co. from 1951 to July 1990. He served as President and Treasurer for 17 years and later sold the company to Anderson Industries.
In retirement he helped to build 10 homes for Habitat for Humanity and also volunteered on many ‘Kids Around the World' trips to other countries including India, Ghana, Honduras, and Cuba. He also served with the Gospel Mission of South America in Chile. John was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Deacon, Elder, and Vice Chairman.
John is survived by his daughter Becky Whitaker, son Jeff Ring, son-in-law Dr. Ralph Whitaker, grandsons Ben (Brittany) Whitaker and Joel Whitaker, great grandsons Sawyer and Grady Whitaker, sisters-in-law Miriam Palmer and Carol Klint, and many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Beatrice, and brothers Edward L. Ring and Robert E. Ring.
A private burial will be held at Stillman Valley Cemetery on February 2, 2019.

I have such sweet memories going back to being my youth group sponsors at First Free and then the many summers at Stormy Lake.His great sense of humor and smile will never be forgotten. I can still hear his laugh. He committed himself to helping many of us think through our faith in Jesus. I know he left a great legacy of love and commitment along with your sweet mom.
