Obituary

Jack Q. Bouma, 90, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Born on June 5, 1928 to Henry L. and Edith L. (Bates) Bouma in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon graduation from East High School, Jack entered the United States Navy. Jack was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the Mediterranean received the Victory World War II Medal.
On September 2, 1950 Jack married Betty Lou Nelson at Central Christian Church. Jack and Betty loved and valued their family above all else. Their home was the gathering place for family dinner and many of his family member even call their house home.
Jack worked for Ekstrom-Carlson. He started as a machinist and finished his career with them in International Sales. When he wasn't traveling the world, Jack was an avid golfer, making sure to get at least nine holes in every day, and scored a hole-in-one at Elliot Golf Course. Jack was usually out the door by 5 am to get laps in at the YMCA and to get in a few miles of running. If he wasn't on the golf course Jack enjoyed watching Unsolved Mysteries and The Big Bang Theory as well as doing the daily crossword puzzle in the local newspaper.
Jack was a member of Forest Hills Evangelical Free Church where he served as a Deacon and the church custodian. He was also a member of the YMCA Men's Club and served on the board at Fairhaven Christian Home.
Survived by his wife, Betty; children, Debra (Fred) Gangel of Belvidere, Bradley (Donna) Bouma of Bradenton, Florida, Traci (Jason) Walsh of Marengo, and Teri (Paul) Triplett; grandchildren, Michael (Alicia), Matthew, Marcus, Angela Bouma, Meghan (Myles) Moss, Keith, and Celeste Gangel, and Steven (Lisa) Carlson; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Andrew, Ian, Nora, and Aiden; siblings, Stanley (Nancy) Bouma; sister-in-law, Judy Bouma; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Maxine (Bud) Thomas, James (Geraldine) Bouma, and Larry Bouma.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in Forest Hills Evangelical Church, 5183 Pebble Creek Trail, Loves Park, IL with Reverend Mitch Sayler officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, IL. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial may be made to Forest Hills Evangelical Church.
