Edith Helen Willey was born September 9, 1919 in DeKalb, Illinois born to Ethel Virginia (Swift) Willey and Harry M. Willey. She grew up on a farm west of town and went to Northern Illinois State Teachers College after high school graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree. She also attended Moody Bible Institute evening classes and studied Bible classes at Wheaton College. She worked at Wheaton College library after graduation. She left in December 1949 for Ethiopia in Africa where she taught at Bingham Academy in Addis Ababa for most of the 35+ years she was there with brief furloughs back to US. She served with Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) and retired October 1, 1985 to Carlsbad California SIM retirement community where she resided for a number of years prior to a move prompted by health issues to move closer to family. She lived the rest of her life in Illinois and was visited by friends and family often. She lived just past 99 years of age and is the last of that generation in the family. She is preceded in death by her parents and all 5 siblings- 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned November 23rd at a location yet to be determined.
