Richard Kelsey, 82, of Genoa, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Alden Debes, Rockford.
Born August 6, 1936, in Benson, Illinois, the son of Roy and Pearl (Tjaden) Kelsey, Richard married Mary Lu McIntyre on June 28, 1958, in Poplar Grove. They were long-time members of Faith United Methodist Church, Genoa, where he was an usher and served on various church committees.
Dick spent part of his childhood farming in Illinois. After graduating from Kirkland's Hiawatha High School, he served in the US Army. He worked various jobs until he was hired as a maintenance engineer at NIU, retiring after 25 years. Dick simultaneously worked as a bus driver for Genoa-Kingston schools, until he officially retired in 2010. He enjoyed camping and playing softball in church leagues - and spending time with his grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his children, Larry (Chris) Kelsey of Peru, Ill., and Lisa Erickson of Genoa; grandchildren, Zachary William Erickson, and Katie and Brian Kelsey; brother, Ron (Linda) Kelsey of California; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lu, in 2013; and a granddaughter, Kelsey Marie Erickson.
