Obituary

Robert Wesley "Rob" Deshazer, 41, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away suddenly Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Kishwaukee Hospital.
Born November 14, 1976, in Winfield, Illinois, the son of Debra (Glover) and Carl Everett Deshazer II, Rob married Tiffany Roos on October 17, 2015, in Sycamore, Illinois. Rob and Tiffany spent eleven happy years together.
Rob joined the US Army and served on active duty for eight years following his high school graduation. He was a proud veteran with deep respect and admiration for the military, police and all who serve the public in uniform.
Rob was a lifelong lover of animals. He kept treats at his restaurant for the dogs that walked by and was known to lay down on the sidewalk with a dog to roll around and play. He felt passionately about animal welfare and was active in fundraising for local animal organizations.
Rob was known for his acts of kinds to those in need and was active in the community, including fundraising for Safe Passage and Hope Haven. The last two holiday seasons he held a toy drive that will be continued by his wife Tiffany in his honor this year.
Rob was a serious football and hockey fan. He would go to the bar on Sundays during football season in a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey, beanie and fleece blanket worn as a cape. He was also an avid Chicago Blackhawks hockey fan and saw them win the Stanley cup in 2015 with his dad.
After managing O'Leary's in DeKalb, Rob was co-owner of Tapa La Luna restaurant in DeKalb since 2011. His favorite thing about the restaurant was his interactions with the people. He would greet all his guests with a hug or a handshake and frequently join tables for a few minutes of conversation.
Rob is survived by his wife, Tiffany, and their two dogs, Regal and Jack; sister, Carrie (Stacey) Miskelley; parents, Carl and Debra Deshazer; nephews, Keaton (Alicia) Miskelley and Colin Andrew DeShazer; nieces, Kerigan and Karsyn Miskelley, and Landyn Renae DeShazer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rob was always there with a big smile and a big hug. In 2016, I happened to run into him after a horrible incident and burst into tears. Rob stayed and let me talk as long as I needed to. We hope Rob's family finds peace. We are so sorry for his family and his wife Tiffany. We actually spent our first real date with Rob behind the bar. Rob was also Brad's best highschool friend. Brad always tells Rob and Andy stories through out out day. I remember mine, yours and my sisters brainstorming to find you size 12 female high heels so you could dress in drag. Lol a joke of course. Rob, rest in peace. You are loved and never forgotten. Love, Brad Schindlbeck and Angie Smith

  17. Carl Deshazer

Happily, on November 14th. 1976, I got to witness my beautiful son Rob, come into this world. I couldn't of had a more kinder loving son than Rob.

  18. Bonny Flerlage

Rob was such a sweet, funny, loving, caring soul. He was a man that you were proud and very lucky to know. He is loved by so many and has touched so many lives. He served in our military. He is very selfless. He's very giving and generous. He hosts many fundraisers. Even at his time of death, he continues to give. He was an organ donor. I'm so lucky to have been part of your circle. I'm so lucky to have called you my friend, my cousin, and someone I have loved your whole life. My life will never be the same. Our family chain has lost another valuable link, and I don't like it at all, but I know you've added to our family chain in heaven. You no longer will have to mourn your losses (especially Andy) The rest of us will be here to mourn you now. I feel confident that you will be one to meet me as I cross over to heaven. I will always love and miss you Rob. It's so hard to believe it's true.

  19. Carl Deshazer

My son Rob was a kind and loving soul. Friendly giving person. Everyone that knew him, loved him. The doctor said Rob passed away of an enlarged heart, yes, enlarged with so much love kindness and understanding. It gives my heart comfort in knowing that my son Rob knew I loved and cherished him. If we spoke or I seen him, I hugged him and told him how much I loved him and how much he meant to me. We got to see our Hawks win the Stanley cup together on June 15, 2015 together, with a picture of his brother Andy sitting before us. Never a day will pass when I don't pray for you and tell you that I love you son. I couldn't be more proud of you, or love you anymore then I do, you made me a better dad for being my son. Until my last breath Rob I will be thinking of you, your proud dad.

  20. Phil Scott

I knew you as a friend of my sons Jason and Kellen. You seemed to be a happy boy and a good friend. I only knew you again recently on FB, but could easily see your love of life, others, and animals in your posts. I will miss you!

  21. Ryan Knowles

I had the privilege of meeting Rob in high school and playing football with him and being able to call him my friend. It was evident right away that this guy had a bigger heart then most. He brightened everything he took part in. It carried on throughout his life and I always enjoyed reminiscing with him when I would see him out and about in Dekalb. It was like no time had passed at all since we had seen each other. There is a serious lack of truly good men in this world these days and we lost one of the best with Rob. The world needs more like Rob Deshazer.

You were a man with a heart of gold, and a love for everyone, and those wonderful #poopoo's. You had a way of making people feel like they were the most important person in the room when you talked to them, because you truly cared about what they were saying. I hope you knew the impact you have had on your friends lives, and this community. I'm going to miss seeing that smiling face. We will all take care of your beautiful wife Tiffany, and help her get through this. RIP Rob, love ya!
