Ingrid M. Carlson, 103, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 after a short illness. Born on October 13, 1914, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Carl and Minnie Lideen. After a few years on a farm in Wisconsin, the family moved to Rockford. Ingrid was an excellent student and jumped two grades in school, graduating from Central High School in 1931. She worked at a full-service grocery store on 7th Street, pulling customer orders from shelves for $11 a week for 6 days a week, and 8 hours a day. Later jobs included salesclerk at J.C. Penney Store on Broadway, Goldblatt's, and as a secretary at Hanson Clock factory. Ingrid married Harry R. Carlson in 1936. Harry and Ingrid were married for 61 years. In her retirement she learned to paint portraits and still lifes with a high degree of skill. She was a long time member of the Rockford Art Guild. Ingrid was fiercely independent; she lived in her own house by herself almost to the end. She enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds. Ingrid loved all the members of her family and spoke very proudly of the accomplishments of each of them.
Survived by her sons, Lowell (Alyce) Carlson of Hickory, N.C. and Leland (Connie) Carlson of Rockford, IL; grandchildren, Cathy (Kirk) Johnson, Carolyn (Doug) Roy, Jeremy Carlson, Shannon Carlson; and great-grandchild, Sarah (Jon) Elliott. We will miss her. Predeceased by her husband, Harry; parents; sister, Olive Olson; and brother, Victor.
Private Graveside Services will be held. Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 in Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave, Rockford. Memorials may be made to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, 111 N. 1st St, Rockford, IL 61107.
