John Leonard Olson, 75, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away peacefully September 4, 2018, at Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease.

John was born in Sycamore to J. Norman and Charlotte (Byers) Olson on August 5, 1943. He graduated from Southern Illinois University and continued on to receive a Master's of Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University. John married the now-late Bobbi Bordner on September 4, 1965, in Sycamore, and had two children, Lisa Miller of Sycamore, and Rob Olson of Malmo, Sweden. He later divorced in 1977.

John worked as an Assistant Director of Registration and Records at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb until retirement in 2002 after 31 years.

John is survived by his children, Lisa (Chris) Miller and Rob (Amy) Olson; his grandchildren, Joshua Olson of Leesburg, Virginia, Rachael Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, Jarod Olson of Pennsylvania State University, and Taylor Miller of University of Missouri; and his siblings, Jeff (Karen) Olson of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and Julie (Gary) Lee of Sycamore; and three nieces.

John was preceded in death by his parents, J. Norman and Charlotte Olson.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018, at Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk Street. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, September 9, and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at South Grove Cemetery, Kirkland.

    While a student at NIU (BS 1988), John was a good friend. Such a great sense of humor and so many laughs together over dinners and while watching The Golden Girls. Always willing to listen and lend advice. Rob and Lisa were the center of his universe. Sending positive thoughts to friends and family.
