James E. Blaser, 78, of Rockford, was called home to glory Thursday, August 2, 2018. Born on February 10, 1940, in Rockford, the son of John and Wilda (Snively) Blaser. Graduate of West High School, Class of 1958. James was a United States Air Force veteran. He married Joanne M. Johnson on June 6, 1960 in Victorville, CA. Jim worked for UPS before retiring in 1990. Faithfully attended Redeemer Lutheran Church. Also a member of Good Guys Car Group and Ostomy Association. Jim enjoyed frequent visits to the Fireside Dinner Theater with his wife. He also enjoyed fishing, model airplanes, and supporting his grandchildren's activities. Jim was a very talented mechanic and a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything. He was especially proud of his 1958 Ford Fairlane which he restored from pieces. Jim and Joanne enjoyed taking it to many cruise nights, especially Coop's in Belvidere.
Survived by his wife, Joanne; son, Dennis (Sylvia) Blaser of Caledonia; daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Denny of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Jonathan Blaser, Jeremiah (Esther) Blaser, Jeremy Denny, Zac Denny, and Amber Denny; great-granddaughter, Miley Denny; and numerous other relatives. Predeceased by his stillborn daughter; parents; sister, Sally Modglin; In-laws, Roland & Ingrid Johnson; and nephew, Chad MacCallum.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 in Redeemer Lutheran Church, 827 16th St, Rockford, with Reverend Steven Woita officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave, Rockford and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday prior to the service in the church. Any of his cruise night friends who would like to drive their cars are welcome; parking is in the back and side of the church. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MDA, 550 E. Boughton Rd #230, Bolingbrook, IL 60440, Parkinson's Research Foundation, 5969 Cattleridge Blvd Suite 100, Sarasota, FL 34232, or Redeemer Lutheran Church.

I worked with Jim for 10 years at UPS in Freeport he was always good with come backs many I will never forget. What a great guy. Those of us still left mention him often and it always brings us a smile.
