Marlene Gayle Johnson, 82, of Rockton, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Highview in the Woodlands Assisted Living Facility. Marlene was born on November 27, 1935, in Sycamore, IL, the daughter of Floyd E. and Ruby (Bergesen) Milligan. Marlene graduated from East High School in Rockford, IL. Class of 1953. After graduating high school, Marlene traveled extensively with friends and family. She traveled to Europe and even made it to Cuba prior to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Marlene married Jim R. Johnson on September 25, 1965, in Rockford. She was a volunteer on the burn ward of St. Anthony's Hospital in the 1980's. She was also co- owner of Dollar-wise Instant Printing in Belvidere when she retired in 2002. Marlene enjoyed being a mother to her children and a grandmother to her many grandchildren. Also, Marlene enjoyed being a season ticket holder for the former Rockford CBA basketball team, the Rockford Lightning as well as a former season ticket holder for the AHL Rockford Icehogs.
Survived by her husband, Jim; children, Jeffrey Johnson of Rockford and Mark (Rebecca) Johnson of Huntley, IL; and grandchildren, Eric, Evan, Caden, Madeline, Payton, and step grandchildren, Zachary, Leah and Braeden. Predeceased by her parents; and brother, Roger Milligan.
