Obituary

Diane (Sederquist) Johnson, 74, lifelong Rockford resident passed away peacefully Monday, April 30th in her home. Born on May 1, 1943 in Rockford to Ellsbury and Ida (Flodell) Sederquist. Married Donald Johnson on February 17, 1962 in Rockford. Diane was a 1961 graduate of East High School and played an active role in all her class reunions. Formerly employed by Sundstrand Corporation, Hallstrom School as the lunch lady known as "Sarge" and Northwest Bank in Rockford. At age 50, she returned to School at Rock Valley College, where she was close to receiving her Associates Degree and earned a 4.0 GPA and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. Long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Rockford, where she currently served as the church treasurer, President of TWELCA, member of Hope circle, the church council and finance team. She was a former volunteer at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, and St. Anthony's Women's Auxiliary. She was one of the founders of the Fire Burn Prevention Program in the Rockford area. Diane loved to go to the casinos, watch FOX news, loved her Honda Accord and a good glass of Chardonnay. She made the best paper airplanes and lunches for her grandsons.
Survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Denise (Doug) Gilbey, Doreen (Don Oliver) and Darcie (Edward) Powelson; grandsons, Nicholas Powelson and Andrew Gilbey; sister, Marlene Benson; brother-in-law, James Benson; brother Steven (Maria) Sederquist; several nieces and nephews; and her extended Trinity Family. Predeceased by her parents; and grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 N. 1st St., Rockford, with Reverend Jay Quinn officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church. Burial at Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
