Obituary

Donna L. Stalcup, 80, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018. She was born
April 6, 1938, in Rockford, the daughter of Vernie and Doris (Olson) Rapp. Donna graduated from Rockford East High School in 1956 and attended Millikin University before marrying Jerry Stalcup on November 27, 1959 in Rockford. Donna enjoyed gathering with dear friends and family for sing-alongs around the piano, playing in her bridge club and throwing great parties for all occasions. She embraced her loving husband's football career and they attended countless Badger games together. Donna enjoyed spending time at the family cottage and traveled the country with Jerry visiting every continental state and Canadian province in their VW camper "Gus the Bus." She often celebrated her Swedish heritage and thoroughly loved spending time with family and numerous great friends. Donna worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for a variety of employers and retired from the Rockford School District. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in Phoebe Circle.

She is survived by Jerry, her husband of 58 years; children, Todd (Lynn) Stalcup, and Lauri (Gordon) Tormohlen; grandchildren, Barrick and Karina Tormohlen, and Bret and Liza Stalcup; sisters, Carol (Mike) Markley of Rockford, and Sharon (Steve) Olson of Houston, TX; many cousins including Carina Bjork of Stockholm; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday April 21, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 925 5th Ave., Rockford, with Reverend Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford on Friday April 20, 2018, and from 10:00 to 10:45 Saturday April 21, 2018 prior to the service at the church. Burial at Scandinavian Cemetery. A memorial may be made to the Donna L. Stalcup Fund.

    Donna was my second mom. Donna could hug like no one else. I will miss the sing-a-longs, card games and dancing that came with a overnight or visit at the Stalcup house. I learned so much about Swedish customs and cooking from her. I will miss her. My love to Jerry, Todd and Lauri.
