Janice Ann Strandquist Forkner, 82, of Rockford, died Sunday, April 9, 2018, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born March 10, 1936, in Rockford, the daughter of Albin John and Marjorie Marie (Patterson) Strandquist. She was married to Donald Forkner, now deceased.
Her only sibling was her brother, Jack Strandquist of Strandquist Motor Company who passed away in 2010.
Janice grew up in Rockford and spent her early years summering with her parents and her brother, Jack, and his family at their summer home on Williams Bay, Lake Geneva in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Janice and her mother enjoyed collecting antique dolls and attending antique doll conventions.
Janice attended Stevens College for women in Columbia, Missouri and majored in equestrian studies. She was a lifetime member of the Rockford Women's Club.
Janice had a show horse breeding and training farm in Rockford named the Jan-Ann Stables. She rode, trained and showed champion American Saddlebred horses around the country for many years and her father, AJ Strandquist, also enjoyed driving the gaited horses in horse shows. Her favorite horse, "Fashion Gail" was a beautiful multiple champion three gaited show horse who Janice retired and cared for many years until Fashion Gail died.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Genoa Township Cemetery with Rev. Dean Parker officiating.
