Lowell Eugene Moberg, 96, passed away on April 2, 2018 in Santa Maria, California. He was born on April 5, 1921, in Creston, Iowa, son of Eric and Anna Moberg. He was raised on a farm; however following the death of his father, and his graduation from high school, he relocated to Rockford, Illinois in 1940. During the Depression, work was difficult to find, but relatives helped him get started in a machine shop. It was the beginning of his life-long career as a tool and die maker. Lowell was inducted into the United States Army in 1944 and served with the 32nd Regiment on the front lines in Okinawa during the fierce battles in the spring of 1945. He was also stationed with his unit on Korea's 38th parallel before shipping home in July of 1946. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart, among other service awards. Lowell married Dorothy Schraeder in December of 1946, and together they raised a son and daughter in Rockford. They were active members of Temple Baptist Church for many years. Dorothy passed away in 1986 after a lengthy illness. The following year, Lowell's sister introduced him to her friend in California, Jean Larson Srite. They were married in September, 1987, and lived in Lompoc, California, until moving to nearby Santa Maria in 2017. During his retirement in Lompoc, Lowell was a very capable and much sought after handyman in Lompoc and Vandenberg Village. He was active in the Lompoc Presbyterian Church during his years there. He enjoyed walking, Sudoku puzzles, and figuring out how to build or fix things. He was greatly respected and loved by his family members and friends, both near and far.
