Obituary

Jack A. Miller, 84, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at River Bluff Nursing Home. Born on December 20, 1933, in Rockford, the son of Russell and Marie (Melinis) Miller. Graduate of West High School and attended Blackburn College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Korea as a Survey Specialist (SP3). Jack married Edith May Wheeler on September 5, 1959 in Rockford. She predeceased him in September 1982. Jack retired from Gunite Corp and General Motors in Janesville, WI. A member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and formerly a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Jack was an accomplished wood worker with several beautiful pieces left behind. He also very much loved his flower gardens he had around his house. Also known to many as Grandpa Jack!
Survived by his daughters, Debbie (Pat) Sornsin of Rockford, IL and Brenda (Roger) Stromquist of Loves Park, IL; brother, Terry (Janice) Miller of Roscoe, IL; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by his parents; sister, Vicki Johnson; and nephew, Monty Miller.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, with Reverend SungJa Lee Moon officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the chapel. In lieu of fresh flowers, the family would prefer Perennials or outdoor plants of donor's choice.
