Arthur R. Gustafson, 65, of Rockford, IL, unexpectedly passed away on August 2, 2017. He was born in Rockford, IL, the son of Arthur Merle and Carol Sue (Carlon) Gustafson. Arthur graduated from East High School in 1970 and attended Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. In 1981, Arthur began working for Exelon Nuclear Plant in Byron, IL. He worked his way up to a position as a radiation protection technician. Arthur worked for the Byron Nuclear Plant for 34 years and retired from Exelon in 2015.
In 1983, Arthur married Mary Jo (Fosdick) Gustafson and had four children. Arthur provided a fruitful life for his children by hard work, long hours, and working numerous outages at the Byron Nuclear Plant. Arthur enjoyed boating and fishing with his family and friends on the Rock River. He was a craftsman. Arthur took great pride in building his own home on the Rock River. He also took pride in personally building several additions to his home, such as a large wrap around deck, a dock for his boats, a tree house for his children, and a greenhouse for gardening, and much more. To relax, Arthur would listen to the Beatles and jazz music while he tinkered on projects in his self-built garage. Arthur was known as a jokester and enjoyed his time laughing with family and friends. Arthur was a member of several heritage clubs in Rockford, IL, for example, the SMSF and Lyran's Club.
Arthur was loved greatly by his children. He was overjoyed to become a grandpa to his granddaughter and expressed excitement for the upcoming arrival of his second granddaughter.
