Matthew Martin Thomas, 28, of Stillman Valley, went to be with God on Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was born on February 20, 1990 at 25 weeks, the son of Martin Thomas and Julie Rebecca -Thomas. Matt graduated from Stillman Valley High School, class of 2008 and received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and an emphasis in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 2012. He was employed at Valspar in Rockford where he was well respected and enjoyed working there. Matt loved his family and his friends very much; he enjoyed making everyone smile, and had a love for music. He enjoyed trips to Afterglow Resort and trips to Alabama for Spring Break. His fruits were a "Harvest" of Love-Joy-Peace-Forbearance-Kindness & Purity.

Matt is now with his brother, Anthony and his grandfather Samuel playing the accordion again, laughing in the kingdom as the child he is forever! We all love you Matthew!

My condolences to Leta Thomas and her family. I know this pain all too well. He sounds like he was a great person.

  2. ReNee Hancock

I miss him already. I’ll miss his smirk, I’ll miss his pacing as he spoke, I’ll miss his passion for music, the way he fiercely loved some artists and his unique way of insulting artists he couldn’t stand 😂 I see his smile and I can hear his laugh in my head. I’ve experienced a lot grief and I’ve learned these are the things that stick with you. These little moments, most will bring a smile to your face and occasionally a tear. Matt has always been a extension of my little sister and brother. I used to go their softball games while they were on the same team in grade school. I thought Matt was the cutest little kid I’ve ever seen. This sweet dark haired little cherub, and when I saw this little boy play basketball, I was convinced he was going to be a star! I’m a fierce over protective sister of my younger siblings, but with Matt I never had to worry...there isn’t a mean bone in his body. He and his twin Hailey were my favorites through the years and I’m so thankful for how much Matt loved my brother. Good loyal friends are hard to come by, and Matt had loyalty woven into his fabric. I’m going to miss him so much, he was like another little brother, I wish I could have been his protector too. I grieve for his family, Haley, Marty, Julie, Amy, Becca and Bri and so many more, they have my love, thoughts and so many prayers. I hope they know their grief is a shared one, Matt was a gentle, funny, sweet soul, and he will be dearly missed by the Hancock family. Love always, ReNee

Matt was my best friend when I lived in Eau Claire, WI. He was one of the few people in this world who could bring joy to all those around him. I have fond memories of having snow ball fights, taking walks, going to the record store or the Oxbow, playing video games, going to the Cranberry festival and the Brat Festival, playing Kub, so many great times. I will always remember the time we spent together, and will miss him dearly. You have my deepest prayers that he has found happiness and that you may heal.

I got to know Matt while he was living in Eau Claire, WI. I had recently moved to the area myself and decided to attend the Blue Ox music festival on my own in the summer of 2017. I had recently met Matt through a mutual friend, and was happy to run into him right away at the music festival. I wasn't the only one crazy enough about good music to go to a multi-day festival on my own! Matt and I spent most of the weekend hanging out, enjoying great live music, and good beer in the woods of northern Wisconsin. That weekend is a great memory for me, and one Matt will always be a part of. Matt, you'll be missed. ~Greg

Hi, Matt was in my year back in Stillman. His father Martin was my basketball coach back in 5th grade and my dad helped him. Matt was an amazing kid who always had a smile on his face. He always treated people with respect no matter what. It's sad knowing that a soul like his is no longer with us. If the family needs anything or just wants to talk feel free to look me up on Facebook. -James

I spent a day setting ceramic tile with Matt when he was a child. A mind to explore and learn he had. He handed me tiles with a wide smile for the entire day. As I watched him grow into a man,. his contagious smile remained. Kindness is the best word to describe the endring look in his eyes. I will miss you Matt.
